It all started when four brothers collectively built a super market chain that began in the early nineties.
The first El Tapatio Market(store #1), located at the corner of San Pedro and Florence Ave in the heart of Los Angeles, was instantly welcomed by the community with a wide selection of grocery items and a full service restaurant. Within 5 years, Bell Gardens and Huntington Park's stores (#2 and #3) opened up and and El Tapatio Markets was rapidly growing into a well-known Hispanic supermarket chain.
With all three locations covering three different cities (a 25 mile stretch down Florence Ave) by 1997, the Flores family set their eyes further east. In 1999, the Flores family opened store #4 in Corona, California. A small but effective location, as it would be the stepping stone toward our largest and most beautiful store.
In 2001, the opening of El Tapatio #6 came over the city of Riverside with a huge grand opening that caught the people's attention instantly with the welcome returned by the communities of Riverside. The store was massive; a 1,000 sq ft bakery, 1,500 sq ft restaurant, 2,000 sq ft tortilleria and 10,000 sq ft of super market experience that, to this day, sees long lines every day of the week.
The most recent store opening, in 2004, was also a large and impactful event amongst the community. Store #7 in Corona (where the 15 and 91 freeways meet) opened with a month long grand opening event. Store 7 also touted a large restaurant and bakery upon opening and remains one of our top stores.
We hope you come visit, and hopefully we will see you soon at one of our next store openings.
